Herbs for Protection Spells

The herbs in this list are excellent for use in your protection spells. Some are more powerful than others, so you will need to develop a relationship with your herbs to understand which ones work best for you. Remember, the first witches worked with herbs intimately. They had extensive knowledge about working with herbs, and the connection they developed with them was sacred.


Angelica:


This plant is incredibly powerful when used for protection and purification spells. It is also known as archangel or angel's herbs. For centuries, it has been used to improve the digestive system, as a flavoring in alcoholic beverages, and to make candy.


Basil:


Magically it can be used for many different spells to include prosperity, success, peace, protection, happiness, purification, tranquility, and love. It is easily found and is commonly found in kitchens and the local grocery store. It may also be called sweet basil or St. Joseph's Wort.



Caraway:


Magical applications for this herb include health, mental abilities, protection, fidelity, and anti-theft. A great use would be to place it in a protective sachet or charm located in your home. It is also known as Meridian Fennel and Persian Cumin.

Clove:


This herb is associated with protection, purification, mental ability, and healing. Other applications include cooking and baking, and you can find this easily at your local grocery store. Some simple magical use cases would be to place three cloves in a sachet or charm to tie in protective and purifying energy.


Comfrey:


a shrub that grows in parts of Europe, Asia, and North America. It can grow up to 5 feet tall. It produces clusters of purple, blue, and white flowers, and it's famous for its long, slender leaves and black-skinned roots. Magically it is associated with health, healing, protection during travel, and prosperity.


Dill:


Dill is grown widely in Eurasia, where its leaves and seeds are used as a herb or spice for flavoring food. Dill can be used for good fortune, tranquility, prosperity, lust, and protection. It comes in seed or weed form, and both states will work.


Mugwort:


Magically Mugwort is associated with prophetic dreams and divination, relaxation and tranquility, protection, banishing, and consecration. Don't forget Mugwort oil contains thujone, which is toxic in large amounts or under prolonged intake.


Rosemary:


A fragrant evergreen herb is native to the Mediterranean. It is used as a culinary condiment to make bodily perfumes and its potential health benefits. Magically it is associated with protection, improving memory, wisdom, health, and healing.

Sage:


Native to the Mediterranean region, though it has been naturalized in many places throughout the world. It has a long history of medicinal and culinary use, and in modern times it has been used as an ornamental garden plant. Magically uses include protection, purification, wisdom, health, and long life. Sage is one of the most commonly used herbs for cleansing and protection.


Ferns:


They are located in a variety of climates and settings, depending on the species. They are often associated with invisibility, love, chastity, protection from evil, and unlocking doors.


This is an example of using herbs to make a Protection Sachet.


Protection Sachet:


Ingredients:

  • Rosemary

  • Angelica

  • Sage

  • Three cloves

  • A small amount of salt

  • Red thread or ribbon

  • A sachet

How to use it:

  • Place the herbs and salt into the sachet

  • Tie the sachet closed with the red thread or ribbon

Now you have Protection Sachet, you can place it above your door in your home or in your car to protect the area and cleanse it of negative energy.
