What Kind of Witch am I

Updated: Aug 19, 2021

What Type of Witchcraft Should I Practice

You should practice the type of witchcraft that you feel most drawn toward. If you feel called to work with the Fae or Spirtes, that is probably the form of witchcraft you should start with.

As with most things in regards to witchcraft, there are no set rules. If you want to try out crystal magick, or maybe you feel called towards the sea. Then you should try those forms of witchcraft out and see if they are a fit.

There are so many different forms of witchcraft that you would be missing out on many great experiences if you only tried to practice one type.

Generally, if you feel called or find yourself interested in a particular form of witchcraft, you should try it out and see if it works for you.

When I first started practicing witchcraft back in middle school. I did not have the internet or have a lot of resources to look up information. I was drawn towards what you might call green witchcraft.

I think nowadays, it is a lot harder for baby witches to figure out where to start. There is so much information available that it must feel overwhelming. My advice would be not to get too caught up in titles and just start with what feels right.

My personal opinion on the different types of witchcraft is I practice all of the forms of witchcraft I am going to mention. A witch understands and utilizes the energies around them- all elements and all types of implements and ingredients. Do not ever feel like you must label yourself for “authenticity.” Labels are for other people to categorize you. You are beyond labels.

What I am trying to say is if you feel drawn to work with plants go for it. That doesn't mean you're a kitchen witch and that's it. You can and should try different types of witchcraft.

How Many Types of Witchcraft can I Practice?

There is no set limit on the number of forms of witchcraft you can practice. The sky is the limit and there are no rules in witchcraft.

There are types of witchcraft that work well together. A green witch and a kitchen witch make a perfect match. They complement each other, and practicing them together will help you develop faster.

As I said earlier, I started practicing as a green witch, but it wasn't long before I found myself in the kitchen practicing two separate but similar forms of witchcraft. At the time, I had no clue there was such a thing as a kitchen witch. I was just following my instincts, and they were leading me in the right direction. If you follow your instincts, they will guide you in the right direction too.

What are The Different Types of Witches

There are many different types of witches like green witches, kitchen witches, sea witches, cosmic witches, etc.

Below you will find a list of the many different types of witches and the various forms of magick they work with.

There are so many different types of witchcraft. Please forgive me if I don't mention the one that interests you.

The Sea Witch

When you think of a sea witch, you're probably thinking this form of witchcraft focuses primarily on the sea. That would not be an unusual assumption, but if you thought that, you would be partially right.

Sea witches harness the power of the ocean, but they are also a lunar-based form of witchcraft. The moon charges the sea and plays a tremendous role in the energy of the sea.

Sea witches don't have to only work with the ocean. They can work with streams and rivers too.

Sea witches work with the elements, lunar magick, and sea plants. If the ocean is always calling you, go ahead and try this form of witchcraft you never know; you might just be a sea witch.

Cosmic Witch

A cosmic witch is someone who uses planetary and celestial energy in their practice. Cosmic witchcraft concentrates on the heavens above and around us. This is an umbrella term for all of those witches who employ stellar or planetary magic.

Depending on the cosmic witch's focus, you could call them a stellar witch (works with stars and constellations) or an astrology witch (works with astrology and zodiac), a solar witch (works with the sun), or a planetary witch ( works with planets).

The Green Witch

The Green Witch works with plants and the energy of the Earth. If they have space, they will usually have a garden and grow their own herbs. Many years ago, a green witch might have been known as a medicine woman as they used herbs to heal the sick.

If you have a green thumb and enjoy working with plants, there is a good chance you would make an excellent green witch, especially if you find yourself being called to work in the garden.

Green witches work with herbs and essential oils. They study plants and enjoy growing fresh herbs in their garden. Green witches love the outdoors and will be hard-pressed to stay inside if they can be outside.

Divination Witch

Divination Witches work with tarot cards, read palms, perform tasseography (the art of identifying symbols and interpreting messages found in the shapes and configurations of tea leaves), and cleromancy.

If you enjoy reading palms and working with tarot cards, you just might be a divination witch.

Eclectic Witch

This type of witchcraft is a combination of different practices that is unique to the witch. An Eclectic witch creates their path by drawing on their heritage, passions, and various types of magick. This type of witchcraft does not follow one single track.

If I had to label myself as a specific type of witch I would call myself an Eclectic Witch.

Baby Witch

A baby witch is a new witch who has heard the call or finds themself drawn to witchcraft. They are inexperienced and are developing their knowledge. All witches would have been baby witches. At some point, every witch has to start learning, and even the most experienced were baby witches once.

I could go on and on with the different witchcraft types, but you shouldn't worry about what type of witch you are. Work with everything and master as much as you can.

Just because I am not a fan of titles doesn't mean you can't be. If you like working with a specific form of witchcraft, there is nothing wrong with calling yourself a sea witch or a green witch. As I said earlier, there are no rules in witchcraft, so call yourself whatever you want, especially if it makes you happy.
