What is Moon Magic

Moon magic is magic that is associated with the different phases of the Moon. There is a common belief among various cultures that working different Moon rituals during certain Moon stages can bring about physical or psychological change and enhance spells.

Moon rituals are an ancient and sacred practice that originated in Egypt, Babylonia, India, and China, where moon worship was a part of the culture. The phases of the moon influence the growth or decline of plants, animals, and human life.

One example of a Moon ritual performed is a Wiccan ritual known as "Drawing Down the Moon."

The different phases of the Moon associated with magic are the new Moon (banishing, binding, and manifestation) the waxing Moon (manifestation) the full Moon (anything), the waning Moon (banishing and binding), and the Dark Moon (do no magic)

Because each phase of the Moon enhances different spells and rituals, it is always a good idea to plan in advance when it comes to what spells or rituals you should perform and when.

What is New Moon Magic

Traditionally the new Moon is defined as the earliest visible waxing crescent, which signals the start of a new month in many lunar calendars. This stage is when the Moon is at its darkest phase just before it starts to grow again.

For the use of Moon magic, the new Moon phase is like a breath of fresh air; it is a clean slate, or like waking up to a brand new day. There are many opportunities to seize during the new Moon. It is your time to shine.

The new Moon, or sometimes mistakenly referred to as the Dark Moon, is a great time to set your eyes on the month ahead. The new Moon's power is most potent on the actual day, but it remains potent for two and half days before and after.

During the new Moon phase, it is the best time to plant in your garden and set new goals. If you don't have anything new to grow, it is also an excellent time to focus on nurturing projects from past months.

Spells that are the best cast during the new Moon are banishing spells, binding spells, and manifestation spells.

It is believed that if you use a special incantation during the first New Moon of the year, you will be brought into a prophetic dream (especially of your future spouse) when you sleep.

If you want to try the incantation mentioned above, wait till the first New Moon of the year and say the below incantation three times.

"All hail, new moon, all hail to thee!

I prithee, good moon, reveal to me,

This night who shall my true love be."

What is Waxing Moon Magic

A waxing Moon or sometimes called a (crescent Moon) is when the Moon looks like a crescent and the crescent increases ("waxes") in size from one day to the next. This phase is usually only seen in the west.

The waxing Moon is still a great time to try new things. It is a time to tinker with any spells or work you might have started during the new Moon. This Moon phase is your chance to examine what you started and make sure it's on track.

If you intend to start working on a new spell during this phase of the Moon, manifestation magic should be what your focus is on. It does not mean you cannot start anything else. It just means manifestation magic will be enhanced during this phase of the Moon.

What is Full Moon Magic

A full Moon is when we can see the entire lit portion of the Moon. The full moon phase occurs when the Moon is on the opposite side of the Earth from the Sun, called opposition. A lunar eclipse can only happen at a full Moon.

The full Moon is the most energetically potent day of the month. The concentrated power of the full Moon is a favorite among practitioners. The full Moon intensifies everything, so it is not the best time to try new things.

An excellent way to charge yourself and prepare for whatever magic or ritual you have planned is to sit underneath the full Moon and gaze at her beauty. While staring at the full Moon, imagine your body absorbing the powerful Moonbeams as the light of the Moon touches your skin. It is ideal if you can do this for at least five minutes.

You may experience increased psychic abilities during the full Moon, which means you may be sensing things that you usually would miss.

This phase of the Moon enhances any magic you may cast. It is an excellent time for anything that you have tried in the past and failed. The full Moon's power may give you that extra nudge you need.

During the full Moon phase, it is an excellent time to hold your covens meeting. If you meet once a month, always have the meeting on the full Moon.

What is Waning Moon Magic

A waning Moon (crescent moon) is when the Moon looks like a crescent and the crescent decreases ("wanes") in size from one day to the next.

During this phase of the Moon, it is time to let go of whatever you have been holding onto that you no longer need. It is a time of release and self-reflection of the past month.

Examples of things that you can let go of during this phase of the Moon are items that are no longer serving you, relationships that have run their course, or even negative thoughts. This phase of the Moon is the time to see what is holding you back so you can push it to the side and step closer to your full potential.

The spells that are enhanced during this phase of the Moon is banishing spells and binding spells. Take advantage of this and if you have someone in your life that is projecting toxic or negative energy onto you, banish them away.

What is The Dark Moon

This Moon phase is a three and a half-day period just before the Moon enters the new Moon phase. How you can determine it is a Dark Moon is by looking into the sky and not seeing any of the Moon phases. The Moon will not be visible during this phase.

This Moon phase is an essential period of Moon magic because it is believed that any spell cast during the Dark Moon will not bring you what you had intended.

It is best to refrain from any magical activity during the Dark Moon phase; instead, you may relax, meditate, or plan future spellwork.
